Community Rail Development

TfL's Response to the Strategic Rail Authority's Consultation on Community Rail Development

TfL London Rail has submitted a detailed response to the SRA's recent Consultation Paper on Community Rail Development. Recognising that the concept can provide benefits in certain areas, TfL do, however, stress that application of the Community Rail idea may have limitations in the context of London. TfL proposes a tiered approach, which would also allow community involvement in stations without the complexities of micro franchising. TfL stress that for urban areas the focus must be in maintaining the integrity of a cohesive, integrated public transport network. Notwithstanding these points, TfL support the broad concept as it will no doubt be of benefit to lines in rural areas.
