Mayor's Rail Powers

DfT's Consultation on proposals for the Mayor of London's Rail Powers beyond the London Boundary - May 2006

Transport for London (TfL) London Rail has submitted a formal response to the Department for Transport's (DfT) consultation regarding the extension of the Mayor's powers to enable him to exercise greater authority over rail beyond the Greater London Authority (GLA) boundary.

The DfT's preferred option for the boundary would exclude a number of stations within the GLA area. For this reason TfL supports the outer boundary options proposed in the DfT's paper. This will avoid disadvantaging some communities which lie immediately outside the GLA boundary and which are natural railheads. It will also allow better continuity between different stations in towns such as Hertford, Sevenoaks and Windsor.

TfL also supports the governance option involving consultation and liaison with local transport authorities.
