London Trams
As well as managing the Tramlink system, London Trams is responsible for overseeing future tramway developments in London. They bring to this knowledge acquired from negotiating the design, build, operation and maintenance of the existing tramway and involvement in the development of new national and international standards.
London Trams is responsible for:
- Capital Works - investment in Tramlink, Crystal Palace extension, and overseeing development of Cross River and Oxford Street Trams
- Operations - Tramlink management
- Safety and Compliance - developing safety management systems
- Strategy - support to UKTram Ltd and working with planners and developers
Tramlink
Tramlink is a 28km light rail system with 24 tram units on three lines providing a fast, frequent and reliable connection to and through a number of areas in south London, including Croydon and Wimbledon. It became fully operational on 30 May 2000, re-introducing street running light rail to London after an absence of almost 50 years.
Since June 2008 Tramlink has been owned and managed by TfL London Rail.
