Mike Brown, LU Chief Operating Officer said:
"We have worked extremely hard to resolve the problems with Northern line trains as quickly as possible. We needed to ensure that trains were 100% safe to operate before we recommenced services."
"The suspension of Northern line services has caused considerable disruption to passengers and it was essential that services were restored as quickly as possible."
LU has met with the trades unions Health & Safety representatives who have agreed that the trains are safe to re-enter service.
Throughout Friday, ten trains with a modified component installed were extensively tested to ensure that no further problems existed with the emergency braking system.
Tube Lines and Alstom, who are responsible for the maintenance of Northern line trains, have initiated a production plan for the modification of the entire 106-strong Northern line fleet. Trains will be modified at a rate of one per hour. Only once a train is modified can it re-enter service.
As more trains become available, then services on the Northern line will increase. It is anticipated that it will take four days to modify the entire fleet. Services will not be completely restored across the entire Northern line until Wednesday.
A limited service will operate on the Northern line during the morning peak on Monday. Rail replacement bus services will remain in
Operation until Northern line services are completely restored. Further information will be available tomorrow.
