LU responds to New Years Eve strike threat

28 December 2005

LU has urged the RMT to attend further talks to avert the proposed strike on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

We urge the RMT to attend the proposed talks at ACAS tomorrow

LU spokesperson

A London Underground (LU) spokesperson said: "We urge the RMT to attend the proposed talks at ACAS tomorrow in order to prevent any disruption to New Year celebrations in London this weekend.

"London Underground remains ready to talk to the RMT at any time to resolve the issues currently preventing them from implementing the deal they signed up to 13 months ago - and which was endorsed by the leadership of the RMT as 'groundbreaking' and supported by their membership by a margin of 30-1.

"LU is committed to implementing the deal as planned and hopes that the RMT will work with us to honour their part of the agreement rather than attempt to renegotiate it as they seem intent on doing."

"If the strike does go ahead, London Underground will seek to run services where it is safe to do so."
