Transport for London

Weekend disruption to Oyster cards

15 July 2008

Services are running smoothly following a technical issue that affected the Oyster card computer system last Saturday.

The problem, which meant readers across the Transport for London (TfL) network did not accept Oyster cards for a short period in the morning, has now been rectified.

Around one per cent of the six million regular Oyster card users required replacement cards following the incident.

Bus drivers and London Underground staff have been allowing affected passengers to travel until they are able to obtain a replacement card.

A small number of Freedom Passes may not be working following the incident.

Those affected are advised to apply for replacement cards through their relevant issuing local authority.

Staff at TfL have been instructed to allow these affected cardholders to travel by presenting their photocard until they have received a replacement.

TfL is investigating the cause of the problem and apologises to passengers for any inconvenience.
