Transport for London

7/7 victims honoured by the Mayor and TfL

07 July 2008

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson will today be joined by Minister for London, Tessa Jowell MP and the Capital's transport chiefs in an official act of remembrance for the 52 victims of 7/7.

London's Transport Commissioner, Peter Hendy CBE; London Underground Managing Director, Tim O'Toole CBE; and Network Rail Chief Executive, Iain Coucher will join the Mayor and Minister to mark the third anniversary of the attacks by laying wreaths at 8.50, the time of the first explosions, outside King's Cross station.

The floral wreaths are being laid, as they have been in the two previous years, in the small enclosed garden outside the station.

This became the focus for floral tributes and public sympathy in the days following the attacks on 7 July 2005.

Respects are also being paid by the victims' families and friends, as well as transport staff and survivors, at King's Cross St Pancras, the three other affected Underground stations -Aldgate, Edgware Road, Russell Square - and at Tavistock Square, where the bus attack occurred.

Messages of condolence

Here are some of the messages which accompany the wreaths being laid today in remembrance of 7/7:

'We honour the memory of those who died on 7/7 2005, we salute the courage of those who were injured,
and our thoughts and prayers are with all victims and their families.'

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London

'In memory of the innocent victims of terrorism on our transport networks. None of us who work on
London's transport will forget you, ever.'

Peter Hendy, Transport Commissioner

'We, the employees of London Underground remember you and shall always remember you in our service
to London.'

Tim O'Toole, London Underground Managing Director
