Commuters start the week on the right foot

02 July 2008

Next Monday, London's rush hour commuters will be stepping out for 'TangoCommute' between 18:00 and 19:00.

People heading home from work will come across dancers on bridges and at main stations in the Capital.

The couples will be wearing headphones as they tango to Latin rhythms unheard by onlookers.

The idea, say organisers, is to bring a sense of 'compassionate togetherness' to the Capital.

Everyone, from the most seasoned Tango-lovers to complete beginners, is invited to participate.

The silent tango forms part of the Big Dance 2008 festival (5-13 July), a London-wide celebration of dance.

Hundreds of events involving thousands of Londoners will take place over nine days of festivities.

Among them, next Tuesday, passengers at Euston station will be treated to a great Big Dance from Liverpool dance company, Collision.

'The Line', which takes place at 13:00, sees a 100-strong line of dancers melt from the throng of commuters, only to break into a choreographed routine.

Big Dance 2008 is organised by the Greater London Authority in partnership with Arts Council England.
