National Bike Week launches this Saturday (June 14-22) to encourage more people to discover the cash-saving, health and environmental benefits of cycling.

There's a huge amount of support available to people who want to start cycling

Ben Plowden, director of Smarter Travel at Transport for London

This weekend's Sutton Bike Fest (June 14, 10:00 to 17:00 in Sutton High Street) is the biggest Bike Week event in the Capital.

An action-packed day of free family-friendly fun, the Fest offers something for anyone from the complete novice to the most saddle-sore enthusiast.

Test out a huge range of cycles including mountain bikes and tandems, peruse the bicycles, equipment, cycle gear and accessories on sale in the Bike Market, and explore Sutton's cycle routes on free guided tours.

Ben Plowden, Director of Smarter Travel at Transport for London (TfL), said: 'Thanks to Smarter Travel Sutton, there's never been a better time for local residents to think about swapping four wheels for two, as visitors to Bike Fest will discover this weekend.

Biking tips

'There's a huge amount of support available to people who want to start cycling, or to cycle more often, in the borough, including free bike training for adults and children, improved parking facilities and new cycle routes.'

Free cycle maps, which cover every part of London, are available to order from TfL's website.

Cyclists can also use its online cycling journey planner service, which will help them plan their route.
