Showcasing future stars

City Showcase has revealed the final line-up for its London festival, which runs from 2-6 June.

From in-store performances and underground gigs to industry workshops and epic concerts, there are around 400 acts in more than 35 different venues across London.

In past years, some of the biggest names in music have made their mark on the industry performing at earlier incarnations of the event.

Having built its reputation with success  stories such as Amy Winehouse, Ray Lamontagne, Hot Chip, Razorlight, Scouting for Girls, Keane and many more, 2008's Showcase is set to be a foolproof 'who's who' of tomorrow's future stars.

This year's City Showcase features free live music events during the day in shops around Regent Street and Carnaby Street, plus live gigs during the evening at famous venues across London.

Information about all City Showcase events can be found at www.cityshowcase.co.uk.

Calling all women drivers

Transdev (London United) is holding a 'women in the bus industry' day this Saturday, giving women in the Capital the opportunity to find out about becoming a bus driver.

The event will take place at the Sri Guru Singh Gurdwara, Park Avenue, Southall between 10:00 and 15:00.

It will provide an opportunity for women to discover more about making bus driving their career.

There will also be the chance to meet women drivers and to talk to bus company managers about what the job really involves.

For more information on careers at Transdev, visit www.londonutd.co.uk or call 0800 694 0112.

Get your photocard now

Don't forget all 11-15 year olds must carry a valid Oyster photocard from 1 June to travel free on buses and trams.

Photocards are free and application forms are available from the post office.

The process takes approximately two weeks.

Anyone travelling without one will have to pay their fare until they receive their photocard.

If not, they risk a fine.

Covent Garden works

The next phase of improvement work is due to start soon at Covent Garden station.

The major improvement project, which is part of the Transport for London Investment Programme on the Underground, will improve  the ambience of the station and will make it safer and more accessible for customers.

A new CCTV system, 11 Help points with induction loops and a new PA system will be installed, and an electronic information display will be added in the ticket hall.

For partially sighted people, new tactile strips will be fitted to platforms and stairs, along with contrasting handrails.

To facilitate this work, the station will open later (Sunday - Thursday) and close earlier (Sunday - Wednesday) from 13 July .

More information will be available nearer the time.

Work is anticipated to finish by May 2009.
