Transport for London

Double win for Museum

13 May 2008

LONDON Transport Museum has scooped not one but two awards for 'innovative design and interpretation' and 'long-term success'.

The Museums & Heritage Awards for Excellence - the industry equivalent of the Oscars - recognise best practice within museums, galleries and heritage visitor attractions across the UK.

Presented to the Museum's chief executive Sam Mullins by broadcaster and journalist Simon Calder, the awards recognise all that has been achieved in recent years.

Sam said: 'We are delighted that our brand new Museum has received such an accolade, but it is also very rewarding to know that our work over the last 10 years has also been so well received.'

More than 200,000 people have visited the Museum since it reopened in November last year following a £22.4 million revamp.

This is an increase of almost 50 per cent of the Museum's target for the first year of opening and nearly 100 per cent increase on the last year of opening in 2004/05.
