Centenary celebrations at South Ruislip
South Ruislip originally opened under the name Northolt Junction on 1 May, 1908 as part of the Great Western Railway.
The name was changed to South Ruislip and Northolt Junction in September 1932, before becoming South Ruislip 10 years later.
The station was reconstructed and linked to the Central line on 30 June, 1947 as part of the line's extension westwards.
This made it the longest of all the Underground lines at 74km (46 miles) long.
The station currently serves about 3,000 people each day, and is a stop on the longest Tube journey possible on the Underground - from West Ruislip to Epping which is more than 54km (34.1 miles) from start to finish.
