Major benefits for Bond Street Tube
Bond Street Underground is one of the busiest stations on the network, and the planned improvements are set to benefit the many shoppers and tourists in the area, plus a large residential community and local businesses.
Every day, around 155,000 passengers travel through the Tube station and it can get heavily congested at peak times.
Demand is expected to grow to 225,000 passengers each day over the next few years, so there is an urgent need to improve access and facilities.
As part of the work, Transport for London (TfL) plans to upgrade the existing station which will connect to the new Bond Street Crossrail station.
Increased capacity
By 2017, Bond Street Tube station will have step-free access to Jubilee and Central line platforms plus increased capacity thanks to a new station entrance on the north side of Oxford Street on Marylebone Lane.
There will also be more escalators and station enhancements.
The Bond Street area will also benefit from the new high frequency Crossrail services, which will run up to 24 trains per hour in each direction through central London, increasing journey options and reducing journey times.
Crossrail will connect with many central London stations (including Bond Street), increasing the rail capacity in London by 10 per cent and helping to ease congestion on the rail and Tube network.
More information
The services will start in 2017, linking Heathrow and Maidenhead in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.
