Transport for London

Beating bad behaviour on the buses

04 November 2009

AS Bonfire Night approaches, travelling after dark on the buses couldn't be safer, thanks to an increased police presence in the form of 'Operation Safebus'.

The operation is designed to tackle antisocial behaviour and crime on buses, which traditionally sees a rise at this time of year.

The Metropolitan Police Service Safer Transport Command, together with Transport for  London, will be carrying out high-visibility patrols on bus routes and at transport hubs.

Officers will also conduct a number of initiatives including after-school patrols, reassurance visits, crime prevention discussions, and identifying and dealing with suspects of bus related crime.

Steve Burton, director of transport for London's Community Safety and Enforcement Policing Directorate, said: 'While crime on the bus network is low, we want to do everything we can to help Londoners enjoy themselves and travel safely during these autumnal nights.'
