Transport for London

Transport at a glance

22 October 2009

Cooler trains for the Tube

THE first air-conditioned Underground train arrived in London yesterday.

The new train, which will serve the Metropolitan line from next summer, is the first step in the replacement of the line's fleet, with 58 new trains being brought into service by 2011.

This milestone in the upgrade of the Tube came on the same day that the Transport for London (TfL) Board met to consider TfL's updated Business Plan.

It sets out how investment in frontline services and critical transport projects will be maintained up to 2018, safeguarding the investment needed to boost transport capacity, create thousands of jobs and ensure the capital's global position.

Under cover with moquette

IN a nostalgic nod to the past, fashion brand London Undercover has teamed up with Transport for London to create a navy pinstripe umbrella.

Inspired by the distinctive pattern used on Tube seats in the 1970s, and paired with navy pinstripe suit fabric, it's a quirky take on a quintessentiallyBritish accessory.

Improvements to Archway

TO enable modernisation work to be carried out at Archway station, trains will not stop and the ticket office will be closed this weekend.

Additionally, the station will be closed and trains will not stop from 11pm on Sunday to Thursday nights, from Monday night, November 2, until the end of May 2010. The station will operate as normal between December 24 and January 2.

Passengers are advised to use local buses to/from nearby stations.

Tickets will be accepted on the following routes:
To/from Tufnell Park and Highgate: 43, 134, 263, 390 and N20

The station will also be closed during the weekends of November 7-8, 14-15, 21-22 and 28-29, with further weekend closures until March 2010.
