Changes to East London line replacement buses

21 September 2009

A DROP in passenger numbers on two East London line replacement bus services has led to Transport for London (TfL) withdrawing one and reducing the other - a move which will save around £1million.

The ELW route from Wapping to Shoreditch is being reduced from six to four buses per hour, and on September 25, the ELC route from New Cross Gate to Canada Water is being withdrawn following a 40 per cent drop in passenger numbers.

A TfL spokesperson said: 'The number of passengers using the replacement buses has dwindled steadily since their introduction and so providing the services as they currently stand no longer represents value for money to the public purse.

'Destinations on the ELC route are also served by existing services which have been increased to account for rail replacement passengers.

'The ELW will remain but with services every 15 minutes as opposed to 10 minutes as is the case now.'
