Saddle up for Cycle Fridays

HOP on your bike tomorrow morning for the fourth Cycle Friday and join a series of supervised bike convoys.

The rides start at 8am from six locations across the capital, helping novice or rusty cyclists back into the saddle.

Marshals from the London Cycling Campaign will lead the routes and give all participants a basic bike check and the relevant maps before setting off.

The routes and meeting points are:

Brixton to Russell Square: Corner of Brixton Road and Coldharbour Lane.

Finsbury Park to St Paul's: Finsbury Park Gate, Seven Sisters Road.

Mile End to St Paul's: Under the green bridge near Mile End station.

Ravenscourt Park to Trafalgar Square: Ravenscourt Park Tube.

Swiss Cottage to Holborn: Hampstead Theatre, Eton Avenue, at the junction with Swiss Cottage gyratory.

Greenwich to St Paul's: Cutty Sark Gardens, King William Walk.

Improve your Tube journey

LONDON Underground (LU) will begin its annual 'origin and destination' survey from today to help improve its service for Londoners.

The information received enables LU to effectively plan train services, modernisations and upgrades, plus transport interchanges.

Fieldworkers will be at some of the capital's busiest Tube stations between 7am and midnight handing out a simple questionnaire that asks passengers about the trip they are about to make.

LU is hoping as many people as possible will take part.

The questionnaire takes around five minutes to complete and can be returned via freepost.

Arty ideas for the weekend

IF you haven't yet made plans for this weekend here are two events, backed by the Mayor of London, which you won't want to miss.

On Saturday, between 1pm and 6pm, Trafalgar Square hosts a free arts festival showcasing the creativity of deaf and disabled people in arts and performance.

Look out for street art, aerial dance, comedy, carnival, film, music, food and children's activities.

On Sunday, head to the bandstand in Regent's Park between 1pm and 6pm for a free afternoon of music and song from the villages of Eastern Europe.

Klezmer bands from across the UK will perform a selection of pieces showing how the music has evolved over the years, as well as its links to contemporary jazz, Latin, gypsy and world music.
