Get out and about in Golders Green

03 September 2009

SEVEN residents from Golders Green have teamed up to design three local walks that explore the area's hidden gems.

The residents, who share a passion for walking and a desire to celebrate their community, responded to an advertisement to get involved in Suburbia, a new exhibition and project supported by London Transport Museum and Transport for London.

It invited them to share Golders Green's hidden highlights and community stories.

The result is three walks exploring the themes of food and drink; green spaces and spiritual places.

Golders Green was the first suburb to be created in London as a result of the Tube station opening in 1907.

The Suburbia exhibition will open at London Transport Museum on October 15, 2009, and illustrates what the suburb means to people today.

Mark King, a local resident and London Blue Badge tourist guiding student, said: 'The three walking tours will not only be a celebration of just how much Golders Green has to offer visitors but it will also be a trip down memory lane for many locals, like myself, taking part in the walks.'

There will also be self-guided leaflets available in local community outlets and online.

The free guided walks start from Golders Green Tube station.
