Summer fun in the Square

THE Mayor of London has launched a programme of free weekend entertainment, designed to evoke memories of the Great British Summer.

The programme, called 'One Magic Summer', begins tonight in Trafalgar Square and visitors can kick back in one of 100 deckchairs to enjoy comedy, street theatre and magic tricks.

Deckchairs are available until Bank Holiday Monday, August 31, from 10am-8pm.

Performances run from 12pm-2pm and 5pm-7pm, each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus Bank Holiday Monday.

Wonderful Wanstead

WANSTEAD Tube station will re-open on Monday, August 31, following its closure for major structural and refurbishment work, which included replacement of the roof above the escalators.

After the re-opening, the station will close at early at 9pm daily until October 12 while the work, scheduled for completion in November, continues.

During the station closure passengers are advised to use nearby Leytonstone, Snaresbrook and Redbridge stations which are 10 to 15 minutes away.

Regular buses serve Wanstead including the 66 and 145 which follow the Central line between Redbridge and Leytonstone.

Valid tickets will be accepted on all local bus routes.

Once work is complete, passengers will benefit from improved CCTV coverage, a new control room, PA system and more Help points.
