Quicker journeys on the DLR

24 August 2009

DOCKLANDS Light Railway (DLR) passengers will benefit from a more frequent service on most of the network from today.

The reduction in waiting times follows 18 months of upgrades, aimed primarily at introducing three-car carriages to replace the existing two-car ones.

The three-car trains will begin running on the Bank - Lewisham line early next year.

With these works now well under way, DLR is able to begin using its improved infrastructure, including a new 'flyunder' viaduct at West India Quay.

The flyunder provides a dedicated route for trains from Bank to Canary Wharf in peak periods, improving journey times and operational flexibility.

Further service improvements will be made once three-car trains are operational and the Stratford International extension opens in summer 2010.
