London Underground

cartoon of Tube improvements If you have a passion for improvement, if you want to contribute to the wider economic and social life of London and to a successful London, then our project management roles give you the opportunity. Put your name on the future.

We're committed to providing the best possible service to all our customers. That's why we've been making significant improvements over the last few years - because we take pride in delivering a world-class Tube service for the three million passengers who rely on us every day.

But we know we can make it even better. By successfully managing several multi-billion pound projects over the next five years, we'll refurbish and renew our assets, and see the Tube move confidently into the future.

Current projects

Two of our biggest and most ambitious projects are:

White City

Creating a new transport infrastructure, including a new station on the Hammersmith & City line, to serve the Westfield London development. With over 1.5m sq ft of retail space and leisure facilities, it will prove a popular attraction to shoppers and tourists alike on completion in 2008.

Extensive remodelling of the existing Central line station at Shepherd's Bush to ease congestion, replacement escalators and modernisation will bring this station into the 21st century. Together with new sidings at White City we'll consistently achieve a high quality of service to an exciting new destination. More about White City.

King's Cross

Enhancing King's Cross Underground station to accommodate the increased demand from the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) terminus at St. Pancras. 55,000 passengers currently use King's Cross Underground station in the morning peak. This is forecast to increase to 82,000 in the same period by 2011, following the completion of the CTRL and the start of various other rail developments in the area.

We'll be making the station larger and more accessible, as well as improving on-site facilities to cater for the huge number of extra passengers passing through each hour. More about Kings Cross.

The modern London Underground is a major business, with over three million passenger journeys a day, some 500 peak trains, 253 stations owned (275 served), over 12,000 staff.
