We ran a consultation on the abolition of mid-year inspections for taxis and mid-year MoT requirements for private hire vehicles (PHVs). The consultation period closed on 24 October 2008.

Background to the consultation
The main aims of this consultation were to:
- Fulfil the Mayor's commitment to consult on the abolition of mid-year safety inspections on taxis
- Rationalise, simplify and unify (where practicable) the present arrangements for taxi and PHV licensing inspections
- Reduce the administrative burden on owners, without compromising safety standards or reducing the overall condition of licensed vehicles throughout the annual licensing cycle
