Learning the Knowledge
At this talk, you will be given:
- A copy of the guide to learning the Knowledge of London (the Blue Book)
- A copy of the PCO's DVD Go Your Own Way
- Advice on how to learn the Knowledge and how you will be assessed
The tests
When you have learnt all the runs, you need to go to the PCO to be tested on the Knowledge.
The examination system consists of:
- A basic written exam
- A series of one-to-one interviews, called appearances. In these, you will be given the start and finish points of imaginary taxi journeys. You will have to describe the shortest route between them
You will also have to take a separate, practical taxi driving test.
You can also download a detailed description of the Knowledge test: Knowledge of London (PDF 231KB)
Using a scooter
Almost all people who apply to become a licensed taxi driver and take the Knowledge of London exam use a scooter to help learn the runs.
For information about riding a scooter safely visit Scooter Safe London or Bike Safe London.
