Renewals
We will send you a renewal form before your current licence expires - but it's your responsibility to return it to us on time.
If you don't renew your licence before it expires, you won't be able to work as a private hire driver, and your vehicle's hire and reward insurance policy will be invalid.

Renewing at the Public Carriage Office
If returning your form directly to the Public Carriage Office (PCO) you must include:
- One recent, colour passport-sized photograph
- Clear and legible photocopies of both sides of your current Driver Licensing and Vehicle Agency (DVLA) licence. If you have a photocard licence with a paper counterpart you must send photocopies of both sides of the card and paper
- A completed enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) disclosure application form, if required
- A completed medical form, if required
- Payment of £298 (to cover the licence application, CRB Disclosure application and grant of licence fees)
Make sure you have completed your renewal form correctly and included all the required documents. Failure to do this may delay the issue of your new licence.
Once you have completed the above, send us your form, documents and payment, making sure you have used the correct stamps to cover the cost of postage.
Medicals
If you are 45 or over, you will need to pass a medical unless:
- You are, or have applied to become, a licensed taxi driver and have passed a medical
- You hold a full Group 2 DVLA licence or a provisional Group 2 DVLA licence, gained after 1 January 1998
If you are 65 or over, you must pass a medical each year. Some drivers may have to do this at a younger age as a condition of their licence.
If you do require a medical we'll send you a medical form with your licence renewal form.
Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure
You will need to complete an enhanced CRB Disclosure application unless you are, or have applied to become, a licensed taxi driver.
If you need to complete a CRB Disclosure, instructions on how to apply for this will be provided when we send you your renewal form.
If you don't need to complete a CRB Disclosure, you only need to pay the licence application and grant of licence fees.
Post Office renewals
To make it easier, you can now renew your licence at the Post Office using the check and send service.
Getting your new licence
If you have completed your renewal form correctly and sent us the required documents and payment, we will post you a new licence.
If there are any problems we will contact you immediately.
Not renewing your licence
If you don't want to renew your licence, you must return your expired licence and ID badge to the below address immediately.
