Transport for London

South Kensington

We are currently looking at possibilities for developing South Kensington station. As a heritage site and gateway to some of the world's leading museums, there are some unique challenges.

Talking and listening to local residents and stakeholders is an essential part of this work.

Evaluation and consultation

We recently carried out a feasibility study. A specialist team identified a range of development options, which were also assessed for their financial viability.

We recently invited comment from local stakeholders and residents on the recommendations in the feasibility report.

The feedback received will be used to help us decide how to proceed.

The consultation has now closed.

You can read a presentation summarising the report here:

Next steps

We will carefully evaluate all comments received. They will inform our decision on how to proceed.

We will provide further information on the next steps once it is available.

Our evaluation of development possibilities at South Kensington is not part of London Underground's planned upgrade of the station. That includes improving CCTV, PA systems, lighting and décor.

Neither is it linked to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea's proposals to improve the public space around the station and in Exhibition Road.

Previous stages

The starting point for the feasibility study was a brief provided by TfL. In summer 2008 we consulted stakeholders on a draft of that brief and as a result made a number of changes to it. The final documents are below:
