Transport for London

Walking

Walking tools and publications We have various walking schemes, tools and publications that we're keen to share with our partners, including boroughs, developers, land owners and consultancies.

Schemes

Legible London is designed to help pedestrians find their way and encourage more walking around the Capital. Boroughs, developers and landowners can adopt the scheme.

Tools

We have two tools that help us design and improve our streets. Pedestrian Environment Review System (PERS) helps us to assess pedestrian spaces.  Pedestrian Comfort Guidance (PCG) calculates pedestrian comfort levels for different walking routes. Both tools can be used by transport scheme professionals to design better walking schemes.

Publications

We publish a number of booklets that give advice on walking improvement programmes and good practice. Measuring pedestrian activity, Walking good practice and Improving walkability showcase our knowledge and experience of walking schemes. They also contain practical advice on designing better walking environments.
